To address the various threats to these important ecosystems, Wetlands International Africa has initiated Mangrove Capital Africa programme (MCA), funded by the DoB Ecology Foundation to mitigate the still very pronounced degradation of Africa’s mangroves, despite the many efforts already made. The Program began implementation in two pilot countries in Tanzania at the Rufiji Delta and Senegal at the Saloum Delta in 2017. Conservation and restoration, environmental education and income-generating projects for communities, with a particular focus on involving women, sum up MCA’s activities. The aim of the Mangrove Capital Africa program is to safeguard and restore mangrove ecosystems in Africa for the benefit of both people and nature. To achieve this, the program aims to restore 1 million hectares of mangroves in 10 countries, guaranteeing sustainable livelihoods for 2 million people. Countries of intervention: Senegal, Kenya, Tanzania, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Sierra Leon, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria Donor: Dob ecology
