Launch of the MOOC: Youth civic engagement in the conservation of marine protected areas
The Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles (Quebec, Canada), in collaboration with the Senegalese Directorate of Community Marine Protected Areas, is launching an online course open to all aimed at strengthening young people’s engagement in the protection and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems.
🔹 Course objectiveTo train and inspire young leaders (aged 18 to 35) to get involved in marine protected area governance, climate justice, gender equality, coastal community resilience and sustainable blue economy.
📚 7 educational modules:
- Marine and coastal ecosystems
- MPA governance
- Gender equality and climate justice
- Climate resilience
- Sustainable blue economy
- Ecological and socio-economic monitoring
- Community mobilisation and environmental education
🌍 Languages available: French, English, Spanish, Portuguese
🗓 Opening date: 15 October 2025
⏱ Deadline for completion: 31 January 2026
🎯 Target audience: Young people aged 18 to 35 living in or near an MPA
🎖 At the end of the programme:
100 I have successfully completed the training will be selected for practical training in Quebec in June 2026.
