Management of mangrove forests from Senegal to Benin (GEFOMA)

The PAPBio C1-Mangrove program financed by the European Union (EU) aims to promote endogenous, sustainable and inclusive economic development, in response to the challenges of climate change. Specifically, the program aims to achieve integrated protection of biodiversity and fragile mangrove ecosystems in West Africa, and enhanced resilience to climate change. The GEFOMA project was initiated by IUCN, of which Wetlands International Africa is a co-applicant with the Collectif 5DELTA, and is being implemented in 09 countries, divided into four (04) large mangrove Priority Conservation Landscapes (PCL), including the Grand Saloum (Saloum Delta Biosphere Reserve in Senegal and Niumi Park in the Gambia) and the Grand Mano (Yawri bay, Sherbro & Turtle islands in Sierra Leone and Lake Piso in Liberia) covered by Wetlands International Africa, Basse Casamance (Basse Casamance in Senegal, Archipel des Bijagós – rio Cacheu – rio Cacine in Guinea-Bissau and – îles Tristao in Guinea) by Collectif 5Deltas (represented by Eclosio) and Mono-Volta (Lagon Songor and Anlo-Keta lagoons in Ghana, bouche du Roy in Benin and Réserve de Biosphère du delta du Mono in Benin and Togo) under the leadership of IUCN.
