🦢 On 11 October 2025, the Palmarin Community Nature Reserve hosted the celebration of World Migratory Bird Day (JMOM), this year’s theme being “Creating bird-friendly cities and communities”.

🐦‍⬛ Initiated by the Senegal National Parks Authority (DPN) under the leadership of the BirdLife InternationalConsortium, Wetlands International AfricaNature-Communities-Development (NCD) and the League for the Protection of Birds (LPO France), with the support of the #IKICREAF and #AGIR projects, the celebration combined educational, cultural and awareness-raising activities.

The day also brought together students, teachers, local authorities and partners around a common goal: to promote the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.

🦆 The day began with a birdwatching outing with schoolchildren, guided by eco-guards and supervisors, which allowed the young people to observe and identify different species of migratory birds. This experience was followed by official speeches highlighting the essential role of local communities in preserving biodiversity and artistic performances inspired by nature.

🦩 This celebration helped to strengthen environmental education and community engagement for the harmonious coexistence of humans and birds.
