Exchange visit to the Mangrove platforms
✅Exchange visit to #mangrove platforms: discussions and sharing of experiences and best practices in mangrove ecosystem conservation.
🗓️On May 7th and 8th, representatives of the Saloum Delta, Gambia, and Guinea-Bissau mangrove platforms took part in an exchange visit to Bissau to learn about the platforms’ activities and actions related to mangrove conservation. The meeting was part of the PAPBio Program “Mangrove Forest Management Project from Senegal to Benin – PAPBio C1-Mangroves”, implemented by the IUCN consortium, International Union for Conservation of Nature, Wetlands International Africa – WIACO and the 5Delta Collective, which specifically aims at the integrated protection of #biodiversity and fragile mangrove ecosystems, and strengthening the resilience of populations in the face of climate change.

🌳The meeting, which was opened in the presence of a representative of the management of the Institute of Biodiversity and Protected Areas (IBAP) of Guinea-Bissau, is part of the capacity building of the platform’s members and the implementation of a strategy to ensure their sustainability.
☘️During this meeting, a full session was devoted to discussing the platform’s sustainability strategy, led by Wetlands International Africa (WIACO). Following the discussions, and after a detailed study of the specific features of each platform, two sustainability levers were identified: formalization and crowdfunding by members.
