Wetlands International Africa provides Gandoule MPA with a large batch of equipment to promote ecotourism

Wetlands International Africa is equipping the Gandoule MPA with a surveillance boat worth 15 million CFA francs, six canoes-kayaks for visiting the bolongs, four mountain bikes for excursions, three tables with six chairs each to equip a restaurant, as well as rubbish bins to create a setting conducive to ecotourism in the Gandoule Marine Protected Area.

Félane, Djilor, June 7, 2024 – Wetlands International Africa has donated a large batch of equipment to the Gandoule Marine Protected Area (MPA), intended for conservation and ecotourism development. The handover ceremony was attended by Mr. Ibrahima Thiam, Executive Director of Wetlands International Africa, and Mr. Daouda Ngom, Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, who symbolically received the equipment from the Executive Director of Wetlands International Africa, Mr. Ibrahima Thiam, after a presentation by Captain Diallo, Curator of the Gandoule MPA.
In his speech, the Minister expressed his gratitude to Wetlands International Africa for this crucial support for mangrove conservation and sustainable community development. He urged the local community and elected officials to use this equipment wisely and commit to a path of sustainable endogenous development. All of this equipment was acquired as part of the “Mangrove Forest Management Project from Senegal to Benin – PAPBio C1-Mangroves”, implemented in the Saloum Delta landscape by Wetlands International Africa and funded by the European Union. This project aims to achieve integrated protection of biodiversity and fragile mangrove ecosystems as well as to strengthen the resilience of populations in the face of climate change.
