Workshop to launch the Wetlands for(4) Resilience initiative – Paysage Jeta-Pecixe-Cacheu (PJC)
On October 26, 2023 in Bissau, Wetlands International Africa West Coast and Gulf of Guinea kicked off its brand new resilience initiative (W4R), which is carried globally by Wetlands International with the support of Sida Global. The aim of the W4R initiative is to expand healthy and bio-diverse wetland landscapes worldwide by 2030, while contributing to climate resilience and environmental, social and economic sustainability. It will be implemented in Guinea-Bissau and Ethiopia.
The aim of the workshop was to co-construct a common vision of the JPC landscape with stakeholders, share and validate the results of preliminary landscape context studies, and define the roles and responsibilities of each stakeholder to facilitate successful implementation.
The official opening ceremony was presided over by the Secretary of State for the Environment and Biodiversity, Mr. Antonio Samba Baldé, in the presence of Mr. Ibrahima THIAM, Executive Director of WIACO, the Kings of Jeta and Picixe, the IBAP representative, and others. At the end of the workshop, stakeholders put forward ideas for implementing the initiative in the JPC landscape.
