Wetlands International Africa<\/strong> has been working in Senegal in the conservation and restoration of mangroves and related ecosystems in the Saloum Delta for more than fifteen years, combining mangrove restoration and conservation with the promotion of livelihoods through income-generating activities (IGAs) and savings and credit groups for mangrove conservation (GECCOMs) as well as environmental education in collaboration with the Fatick academy inspectorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the ARC (Support for Community Resilience in the Saloum Delta) project, Wetlands International Africa aims to conserve and restore mangrove ecosystems for the benefit of the environment and communities. The project aims to contribute to strengthening the resilience of mangrove-dependent communities to climate change through sustainable management of mangrove ecosystems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officially started in May 2023, the project has carried out a number of activities, especially those related to seasonality. These mainly include mangrove restoration activities, restoration of rice fields abandoned due to salinity and training, equipment and monitoring of Savings and Credit Groups for mangrove conservation and the launch of the feasibility study for the establishment of a reference shop dedicated to the marketing of local products from the Saloum Delta<\/strong>. There are also other mangrove conservation and environmental education activities carried out during this period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
