About Wetlands International<\/h3>\n

Wetlands International is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to sustaining and restoring\u00a0<\/em>wetlands, their resources and biodiversity for future generations. We work through 18\u00a0<\/em>regional offices, supported by headquarters based in The Netherlands. Wetlands International\u00a0<\/em>Africa\u2019s regional office is based in Dakar, Senegal and supports projects and office\u00a0<\/em>throughout the continent.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wetlands International\u00a0<\/em>Africa<\/em><\/h3>\n

Globally, Wetlands International works in over 100 countries to tackle the most pressing\u00a0<\/em>problems affecting wetlands, providing tools and information to assist in their protection\u00a0<\/em>and restoration. We try to influence policies, conventions and treaties relevant\u00a0<\/em>to wetlands, such as the UNFCCC and Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and stress o\u00a0<\/em>conservation and wise wetlands use, drawing on scientific analyses in global and national\u00a0<\/em>conservation programmes.<\/em><\/p>\n

Introduction<\/h3>\n

Once upon a summer a little manatee met a little heron.<\/em><\/p>\n

They got along instantly; they played, and frolicked in the water<\/em><\/p>\n

and fell in love.<\/em><\/p>\n

They spent every summer day and every summer night together<\/em><\/p>\n

until one day the little birdie had to fly far, far away,<\/em><\/p>\n

so they made a promise, to meet in the same magical mangrove<\/em><\/p>\n

forest on the same day.<\/em><\/p>\n

When that day came the little manatee went but couldn\u2019t find any<\/em><\/p>\n

mangrove trees, so she waited, and waited, and waited.<\/em><\/p>\n

She swam helplessly around the place where the forest had been<\/em><\/p>\n

for days, weeks, and months but the little heron could not return.<\/em><\/p>\n

We would like to give this story a happy ending\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n
