It aims to strengthen political and technical commitments in the face of intensifying water and climate crises worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/westafrica.wetlands.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/01\/cfe73432-2002-43e9-a6a0-4f733b38be73-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4948\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westafrica.wetlands.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/01\/cfe73432-2002-43e9-a6a0-4f733b38be73-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/westafrica.wetlands.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/01\/cfe73432-2002-43e9-a6a0-4f733b38be73-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westafrica.wetlands.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/01\/cfe73432-2002-43e9-a6a0-4f733b38be73-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/westafrica.wetlands.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2026\/01\/cfe73432-2002-43e9-a6a0-4f733b38be73.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the actors involved, Wetlands International, faithful to its mission of conserving natural resources and wetlands, actively contributed to the proceedings through its participation in the plenary session entitled \u2018Water for the Planet,\u2019 chaired by Dr Musonda Mumba, Executive Secretary of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this occasion,\u00a0<strong>Ms Paola Martinelli<\/strong>, representative of Wetlands International, spoke on the theme of\u00a0<strong>freshwater ecosystems<\/strong>. She highlighted the alarming conclusions of recent reports: <\/p>\n\n\n\n\t<div class=\"aligncenter\" data-name=\"acf\/block-quote\">\n\t\t<div class=\"quote-with-author\">\n\t<figure>\n\t\t<blockquote class=\"quote-with-author__quote\">\n\t\t\t<p>water and water insecurity are increasingly affecting regions facing prolonged droughts, placing them in a state described as\u00a0\u2018water bankruptcy\u2019.  &#8220;These situations are not temporary shocks, but\u00a0irreversible losses, resulting in the inability of ecosystems to regenerate.
